Family-Friendly Holidays in Devon

The memories created on family holidays are everlasting - hopefully in a good way! When planning trips for the whole clan, it is no simple undertaking to decide on activities suitable for everyone to engage in and to determine accommodation to suit the entire family. Devon is a beautiful county located in the south of England and an ideal holiday destination for both adults and children. Holiday cottages in Devon are located in spectacular spots throughout the county and are available in all shapes and sizes. Renting a local cottage is the perfect option for families - whether it's for a weekend or a week or two.

Family Activities in Devon

The Big Sheep

Truly a spot the whole family will enjoy, The Big Sheep is a park with rides, shows, animals and family entertainment. Activities available for children range from dog and horse shows, bounce houses, to lamb feeding and tractor rides - and so much more.

The Big Sheep also has an onsite brewery (bound to attract dad's attention), and a spectacular Garden Centre, which will certainly stimulate mum's senses. When the kids get hungry, parents will be pleased to know that healthy food is available in both of the restaurants located on the property. Restroom facilities are located in various areas of the building and baby-changing facilities are available too.

The Big Sheep is conveniently located in Bideford, just a short distance from many of the holiday cottages in Devon - making it easily accessible for all.

Tiverton Castle

The whole family can enjoy a historically enriching afternoon together by visiting the Tiverton Castle. General Sir Thomas Fairax besieged this former medieval castle during the English Civil War, however that was the only battle that the remarkable building ever saw.

There are few buildings in the UK that evoke such a powerful feeling of history such as the venerable Tiverton Castle. Originally built in 1106, by order of Henry I, and later rebuilt and enlarged in the 13th and 14th centuries, the Tiverton Castle was once home to the medieval Earls of Devon. Later additions and alterations to the castle throughout the centuries brought different forms of architecture to the building, from medieval to modern.

Holiday cottages in Devon located in the town of Tiverton are just a short drive from the castle.

Noss Mayo and Revelstoke Drive Walk

This trail has been described as "the many faces of maritime South Devon in one walk", due its rough, open sea and rugged coast, sheltered estuary, wooded riverbanks and the waterfront village of Noss Mayo. The trail is suitable for families wanting to see a bit of Devon's geography, and is ideal for children to do a bit of running around and exploring.

No matter what activities the family decides to engage in, holidays in this gorgeous region are ideal for children of all ages. Holiday cottages in Devon are perfect for young families and families with older children too. Many of the cottages are within a short distance of some of the area's best attractions.
